Ann Meyer is an artist living and working in West Bend, Wisconsin and El Paso, Texas. Ann has 40 years of experience working in pen and ink, and has exhibited her ink artwork in California, Kansas, North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Connecticut and Wisconsin nationally. Ann has also exhibited her artwork in Florence, Italy and in Alice Springs, Australia, internationally.
Ann grew up in Indio, California, in the 1960s. At that time, Indio was a small community surrounded by desert, date and citrus groves, and farm fields. Ann spent much of her childhood outdoors: swimming, playing with friends, and riding horses--with family dogs trotting alongside--in the desert and along the farm fields in the Coachella Valley. As a result, Ann developed a lifelong love of nature, animals, and the outdoors.
In 1973, Ann and her family moved to North San Diego County. She attended University of San Diego High School and received an award as best graduating art student. She attended the University of San Diego, Mount St. Mary's College, and UCLA. She graduated with a B.A. in Art from Mount St. Mary's in 1982, again earning an award as Outstanding Graduating Art Student. She attended Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, before receiving the Anabel Mack Taylor Scholarship to attend Rosary Graduate School of Art in Florence, Italy. Ann received her M.A. in Painting from Rosary College (now Dominican University) in 1983.
In 1998 Ann married Steve Meyer, and in 2000, Ann and her husband moved from California to Wisconsin when her daughter was born. Through several moves, job changes, and focusing on her family, Ann continued to create and exhibit artwork. She currently works on her artwork at every opportunity: at night during the week, and on weekends.
Currently, Ann’s artwork reflects her continuing love of the outdoors, and is inspired by the landscape, nature and life in Wisconsin and the desert southwest. In addition, some of her more recent work also includes studies and landscapes based upon visits to France, Italy, Australia, and the American west and northern great plains. Ann currently divides her time between West Bend, Wisconsin and El Paso, Texas.
Although Ann works in oil, dry media and traditional India ink, much of her current work focuses on rendering visual subjects in acrylic ink utilizing a pointillism technique. The work is entirely freehand, densely layered, and exhibits a rich visual texture in its portrayal of landscape.
Ann’s artwork has been included in the 2017 Lakefront Festival of Art at the Milwaukee Art Museum, June 16 – 18, 2017, her artwork was selected as runner up in the 2018 Artistic Excellence competition (Southwest Art magazine) and her work is featured in the May, 2019 edition of Acrylicworks 6, and in the October, 2020 edition of Acrylicworks7, in The Best of Acrylic magazine. She has also been an Artist in Residence in Curtin Springs, Australia, in July and August, 2018.
